“Since January 2016 I’ve been working via POWARE at VOPAK. It’s a pleasant environment because you’re always surrounded by experienced professionals. If you run into something or encounter a corner of the field you don’t see every day, there’s always someone to help you move forward. Colleagues are genuine sparring partners you can reflect with at a high level. Even though we all work with different clients, we stay very connected. We share the same discipline and that creates a strong bond. You notice it outside work too: from a dinner or an afternoon on the water to the outing at the end of 2024, when we went with colleagues, partners and children to the musical Moulin Rouge. That family feel makes POWARE special.

Freedom and responsibility

What also appeals to me here is the freedom and trust you get. You’re not put in a box – you have room to shape your work and development yourself, whether that’s training, study programmes or your employment terms. Management is close by and genuinely involved, so things get arranged quickly.”

“Working at POWARE means a lot of variety. You can work on different kinds of projects in diverse markets. That makes the work challenging. I also like the two-way exchange: sometimes you’re asked for a project, but you can also say what you want yourself. There’s real attention to personal ambitions. And if you need something, it can be discussed – nothing is dismissed out of hand. For example, I’m currently working for two clients: for one I work at the office in The Hague, for the other mainly from home. I don’t actually enjoy working from home, and I said so. Because several POWARE colleagues are involved in that assignment, our office in Gorinchem was made suitable in no time for us to work there together.

Focus on people and the team

A few times a year there are enjoyable activities, often with partners and children – which is greatly appreciated at home. The social aspect is just right here. It’s also the small things that make the difference: the occasional call, a birthday gift and a little something at Christmas or Easter. The low turnover among experienced colleagues says a lot. For me, it’s confirmation that POWARE is a place where you want to stay for the long term.”

“I was POWARE’s first employee, together with Marco de Zoete, the founder. Of course that was a risk, but I’ve never regretted it for a single day. What appealed to me from the start was the humanity: you can always say what you do and don’t like. That gives freedom and brings a lot of variety. I often work for one client for years and carry out diverse projects there, which makes my work much broader than if I were employed in-house somewhere. If you want longer assignments, that’s possible; if you want shorter ones, that’s possible too. Planning is always a two-way process: sometimes Angel asks for something, sometimes I indicate myself that I have room for something new.

Humanity and solid terms

At POWARE, enjoying the work is central. We all do this profession because we like it – and you notice that. You’re well looked after: your employment terms match your wishes, with a choice of fixed or flexible arrangements and your pension and company car properly organised. And just as importantly, you’re surrounded by a great group of colleagues. That combination of professionalism and humanity is why I still enjoy working here.”
