Everything arranged properly under the DBA Act
Since 1 January 2025, the Dutch Tax Administration has actively monitored false self-employment. This means that collaborations between self-employed professionals and clients must be structured with even greater care. As an intermediary, we assess every partnership against the rules of the Dutch Employment Relationships Deregulation Act (DBA Act). We make clear agreements, comply with them in practice and work exclusively with self-employed professionals who demonstrate genuine entrepreneurship. We also remain alert to situations where the line between employee and contractor could blur. This allows you to focus fully on your profession – without worrying about administrative or legal complexities.
Looking ahead: the VBAR Act
The Dutch Clarification of Assessment of Employment Relations and Presumption of Law Act (VBAR Act) is expected to take effect in 2026. This legislation aims to provide greater clarity and simplify the assessment of employment relationships. The government will tighten the rules by setting clearer criteria for distinguishing between employees and contractors, and will introduce a presumption of employment for low-paid assignments. This will create a better balance between protecting workers and safeguarding opportunities for entrepreneurship.
